Would anybody know roughly what the fuel consumption is for a Birchwood TS44 powered by 2 Caterpillar 375hp engines ?

Im trying to put a passage plan together for a delivery next week and want a rough Idea of how often we will need fuel !

Cheers,

I think that is a bit optimistic, Byron. My TS37 with twin 306's does that. The TS44 being a much bigger boat is likely to be nearer 1.3 - 1.5 gall/mile.

After owning a similar boat with twin cat 3208 then you may be in for a shock, the hull shape has the aerodynamics of a skip IMHO anyway, it is heavy and flat at the stern hardly any deadrise at all, also round bilged gives aroly poly ride in rough weather, max speed wil be about 22/23 knots, now these engines love fuel but are virtually bomb proof as they are 10.4 litres hardly stressed at all, at cruising speed of 19/20 knots then the engines will be doing 2500/2600 rpm they will do about 1/2 a mile per gallon, trust me I know !.

Only going by what someone who used to have one reckoned he was getting. I too get 1gpm from my 306s but there again I got the same from my old Perkins 145s on my previous boat.

Re: Are you sure???

Somebody round here is pulling my leg. My 250 Mermaids use between them approx 1 gallon, per hour, per Knot. i.e. 17kn = 17GPH. Similar to a friends 320 Sabres and PaulineB's 400 Cummins. How come you lot are thundering around with engines the size of houses and fuel consumption of a Nissan Micra? Please advise what fuel you are using as with performance like yours, my tanks could fill up rather than emptying.

Re: Are you sure???

figures quoted Chris were Gallons per nautical mile not gallons per hour. My 306s use 70 gallons appx. London - Ramsgate a distance of appx. 70 N.Miles. I do have Molyslip in my engines which improves consumption figures, don't know how much on my 306s but on my 145s by 16%.

I know the TS44 is a bit of a bus (and I seem to remember that MBY were not very complimentary about its handling) but 0.5mpg sounds a bit pessimistic. I once had a Princess 470 with Cat 3208TA (442hp) engines and the fuel consunption worked out about 0.8mpg at 22-25knots. I know the TS44 is probably described as a semi displacement hull but I would expect 0.6-0.7mpg surely
You're dead right about the Cat 3208 engines. Large capacity, huge torque, understressed, very reliable. But then I'm a sucker for V8's
