Bio fuel in Volvo engines

[ QUOTE ]

Main hurdle I can see is how would I get 250L of the finished product actually into the boat? Fairly sure that marina regs forbid refuelling other than at the refuelling berth.

That's what I see as the main hurdle too. Even if you can get the okay to fill at the marina, maybe on the fuel berth, to make it worthwhile needs large volumes, which means lots of 20 litre jerry cans, and also time to make stuff. I've thought of buying one of the cheaper kits here, however I'm not convinced it's worth the hassle. The other point is there's a finite supply of waste cooking oil, and it's going to get to the stage where it has value rather than being a waste item quite quickly if many peeps buy these kits, which will erode the cost benefit.

To me the attraction of the veg oil over the bio diesel route is the lower capital cost. The veg oil kit is under £500 plus fitting if you aren't able or willing to do it yourself.

You do have the issue of getting fuel onto the boat though. 200 litres of veg oil sir? yes we have a lot of chips to cook! LOL
