I recently dropped my Bynoylt Searanger II binoculars, with one of the eye-pieces getting a glancing hit on the cockpit floor. As a result, not only is the dioptic adjustment very stiff, but water has entered that half of the bins.

Can this sort of damage be economically-repaired? A new pair of the same now costs £190.

Otherwise, I'll have to rob a few grannies to pay for Steiner Navigators with a stabilised compass!

I looked into re-aligning my binos and found it was about £100 inc VAT and P&P. your damage might cost more.

Decided to buy a £30 pair so that i didn't feel so bad when they were dropped!

Await Lidl's next bino offer, can drop them with impunity & cracking bino's.

Great.. I had a pair of binoculars repaired by ActionOptics a few years back.

I was worried about posting them but met the guys in Haslar marina a few weeks later where they took them from me. The repaired binoculars arrived back well packaged in the post a few weeks later.

Wow! £100 for a realignment is expensive. What was the binocular? £40 is the normal charge in my workshop and upto £60 if there are other problems. I have just supplied and fitted a new compass module and realigned a marine 7x50 for £68. The compass module coat £28 of that. I used to do all the bino repairs for Jessops. Tbey added 110% to my charge but they still went bankrupt !

A couple of years back I passed all my binoculars to Optrep Optical Repairs in Selsey Tel 01243 601365. Tony Kay had handed over the firm of the same name and retired to the South Coast but wanted to keep his hand in. He did an excellent job, servicing, cleaning and collimating. Charge then was around £70 per pair but well worth it for a good pair of bins. Yes, I could have gone to Lidl and spent less on a new pair but there is no substitute for quality kit. Tony has had a lifetime in the business and knows his trade inside out.
