I am thinking of fitting a fly bridge bimini cover and to give me sufficient head room it looks like there will be 4 stainless steele supports protruding above the radar arch which will be in direct line of the radar beam.

Any adverse effects on radar performance and any health and safety issues?
My head would be below the sweep of the radar when sitting down at the helm.

Will you operate the radar when using the Fly? We don't due to great visibility when on the Fly, and concern about microwaves even though ours sits quite high.

Good point. I would most likely would need be up on fly bridge in poor visibility so operating radar as well seems sensible. My head would be about 2 foot below the beam so wondered if the metal supports would reflect false echoes or swamp the screen with clutter.

iirc, radar wont bother with anything close than a couple of meters, if I'm wrong someone will come to correct me.
I'd be more worried on the waves i'd "collect" when sitting there with the radar on my back. Again iirc radar beam is obviously 360 but also 10-12degrees vertical. Do the calcs on 2m infront and .6m below I think you'll get a fair amount of radiation...

cheers

Thanks. From memory the lowest part of the radar dome is about 2 foot above my head when sitting down on fly bridge and my head would be about 30 inches in front. the boat is moored in Spain so will do some more accurate measurements when next there.

Cheers
