Wow. What a place. We've been up and down the Bahama chain three times en-route to the Caribbean or USA and never stopped at Bimini. I always subconsciously dismissed it as probably being too commercial and as it's only 40 miles from Florida just an outpost of the USA.
Couldn't have been more wrong. It has real Island flavour and is soaked in the legends of Big Game fishing and Hemingway. Alice Town is quite rough and ready looking, but in a charming way. The end of the world saloon is probably the roughest looking bar I have ever been in, with graffiti covered walls and a sand floor, but it's also probably one of the best bars I have ever been in too!
Lots of stories of hell raising in times gone by from the locals, great seafood shacks and smiling happy people.
At the other end of the Island is the new immaculately manicured Bimini Bay resort and marina, but we are preferring Alice Town.
If you are coming up through the chain to the USA this year, don't miss Bimini.
