Bill of Sale format

I need to send to a friend of mine in Italy the format of a standard Bill of Sale. Long story but the Italian equivalent requires the services of a Notary - and his not insignificant fees.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to where I can download a suitable form please? Attempts at googling have only turned up United States versions, which are totally different.

Your friend needs to be aware that the RYA BofS is only valid if the contract is subject to UK law. The Italian equivalent needs a Notary for it to be legal in Italy - particularly if the boat is to be registered there.

I had exactly the same issue when I bought my boat in Greece. All the documentation had to be in the format accepted in Greece.

You are quite right and I thank you for your concern. However, the scenario is slightly different (I think. I hope?)

You see, the boat was hitherto registered in the Italian Registry although the boat was and still is based in Malta. After more than three months of hassle the Italian registration has finally been cancelled. (Compared to Italian Bureaucracy, our system must run on jewelled bearings!) The bill of sale - and a copy of the cancellation from the previous registry is required for the boat to be registered under the Maltese Flag. Next week I shall take a copy of the BofS (as amended by me) to the local Maritime Authority so that they can confirm that it is OK for their requirements. (Maltese maritime legislation is not much different from that of the UK; mostly, it is just more expensive ) If necessary I shall then make further amendments before forwarding it to Rome for the relevant details to be filled in.

After waiting for more than eight years for this particular boat, a couple more weeks won't matter much.

But if the Italian Notary is anything like a French Notary the document will have to be in Italian.
I recently had to do a lease on our house in France to an English couple, but it had to be in French. With your "Bill of Sale" I suggest that you go on Google Translate (having 2 computers helps) type out the Bill of Sale sentance by sentance into Italian, then back again into English and if it doesn't translate it "Mirror Image" alter the wording slightly till it does.
OK its time consuming but it worked for me.

PS I would take a Power Boat up to 25ft in PX against my French House. 6 bed detached at Euros 189.950.

Like the man said, you go from English to Italian on one and then Italian to English on the other and check that the double translation matches the original.

It's just as easy (and cheaper in hardware) to open your browser in two windows and have Google translate running in both. That way you can copy and paste the Italian rather than retyping it.
