I have just purchased a 1955 timber bay crusier and have noticed what seems to me as a large amount of water build up in the bilge over overnight and was just wondering what should be the norm. I would say there would be around 7-8 litres every morning. The boat has an auto bilge switch and pumps it out everytime.

No that's not normal. A wooden boat doesn't have to leak! - although it may do. That's excessive and needs looking at. I assume she's on a mooring while this happens overnight? What happens when you're unerway? What is the construction of the vessel - ply, carvel planked, clinker planked, cold moulded or what?

G'day kiwiaussie, and welcome to the YBW forums.

How long has she been in the water? she might need a little time for the timber to swell, this can take 10 days.

Have you managed to locate the leak, a dusting with talc will help.

Avagoodweekend....

Thank you for the reply, The boat is planked and after a tad more investigation this evening I can see a weep in the stern where the hull bottom meets the transom. I plan on taking the fuel and freshwater tanks out this weekend and see what I can find...
