Bilge Pump....

......just realised that although my boat is fitted with a float switch it doesnt seem to have a bilge pump attached to it.

Is this reasonable? What should I do next.........

Is the float switch meant to tell you the boat is floating or is it meant to be attached to a bilge pump.

suggest you wire it up to the helmsmans seat, thus when bucket brigade is required it will provide a stimulus sufficient to remind you to look in the bilge.

Thats an interesting comment. You mean the Float Switch might not actually be intended to be attached to a BilgePump? There are a couple of wires leading from it but they disappear under the wheelhouse deck and I cant see where they go. I did wonder if it might be possible to connect it to a compressor which would auitomatically inflate the rubber dinghy..........might make more sense than a bilge pump which probably wouldnt stop the boat from sinking anyway....what does the panel think?

this is not uncommon on dutch boats...shd be connected to an alarm (is on mine)
