The bilge sump in my boat is under the engine. Therefore that's where the electric bilge pump sits. But, it's an absolute pain to get to. It's mounted on a metal bracket that's almost impossible to get out.

Anyone have any ideas on sourcing a decent remote pump? Everything I seem to find is submersible.

+1 for gulpers!

but there is a whole bunch of remote mounted bilge pumps avai;lable, from Jabsco and others.

As a general rule, submersible pumps are centrifugal, self priming ones that can be located above the bilge are positive displacement. Centrifugal ones are mostly cheaper, clog rather easily when hair and small stuff wraps around the impeller. Positive displacement ones like the Gulper block with larger stuff that gets into the suction valve but can be cleaned more readily if located carefully. A strum box helps a lot.

I have an electric centrifugal and a manual PD pump deep down in the bilge. The centrifugal inlet is protected by a large sponge that lets water through but nothing else.
