Prompted by a warning by WilliamH here re the danger of a hydrogen explosion while charging batteries, I recalled that one of my tasks is to fit a 'bilge blower' device which should reduce the likelihood of such an 'attention-getter'.
I'm also acutely aware of the gas explosion on HMSTY Lord Trenchard, despite the range of gas safety devices and inspections. I'd sailed on that boat several times in my yooth and remember being briefed by its then-skipper on the gas-safety issue and the range of measures intended to address it....
The MAIB 'Trenchard Report' is here.
So, good forumeers. What are your thoughts and experiences of the fitting and use of 'bilge blowers'....?
