Is it my imagination, or are there quite a large number of bikers on this forum? PhilF's posting this morning "outed" a number of you. What is it with motorboats and motorbikes? Half the people I know in the marine industry are bikers (won't tell you what the other half are), and it seems that you lot are a bit bikie. So, quick show of hands: who's a biker, how long have you been biking, do you still ride, and if so what?

I'll start: I am (obviously), 25 years, KTM 640 SuperMoto

Uh huh, I ride one. Have done for years now. Remember when Yamaha bought out the FS1E. I had one of them when I turned 16. Bit puny comapered to the scramblers I was riding at the time. Got bored with that so I had RD250. Remember riding 250's on L plates. Scraping the pegs on the road down to Box Hill, pulling wheelies passed Burford Bridge Hotel and giving the finger to the Plod.

After that Bikes got a plasticy GPZ's GSX's and all them. Had most of them. Got an RC30 going cheap if you wan, 'it. Still got and XR too, for fun days on the lanes. Best bike I ever had though was a BSA Bantam 175. Cried ther day that went! It would only do 65 top whack as well.

Think I told you already Tom, passed motorcycle test in 1967, blimey 36yrs
had range of bikes mainly Japanese, last one was an SP1, love Hondas,
Need to get one out here in Spain, probably go for a dirt bike for fun off road.
My days of road racing are over now.

In fact is was the big crash on the SP1 which turned me to boats, now look at me.
damn sight more expensive than motorcycles this boating lark.

Ben riding bikes since I was 11yrs old. Eventually became a Motorbike mechanic and due to house prices ended up in a bank!

Used to race Moto-X and only now have a scoot to get to work but looking at a KTM 640 (like yours Tom supermoto style ) or an SV650S as these are two bikes that would be good in Guernsey and for taking away on small trips to France.

Have ridden more bikes than I have hot dinners and they used to be my first love until I could afford boats.

Stated with a Honda SS50 almost 30 years ago, then a CB125, CB200, CB400 four (Best of the bunch - whish I still had it), CB750F2, then got fed up getting soaking wet crossing the Pennines too often to go to uni, so switched to cars, had a CB125, and built a CB200 from parts during my late 20's, an XS500 for a few months in my thirties, then bought an American import Yamaha XS650 Midnight Maxim in 2000. Sold it to upgrade the boat last year!

Just popped over from YM scuttlebutt when I saw mention of bikes. been riding since I was 16, 26 years ago, still wearing my Lewis Leathers jacket that I bought with my 18th birthday money. Currently riding a Kawasaki Z1A which I've had for 3 years, I originally had one, a right clunker, when I was eighteen and can remember reading a road test on the Z1 when I should have been doing geograhpy homework! I always promised my self a good one.

Re: Go for the Katie

Thoroughly recommend the SuperMuerto thing...the KTM is the best laugh I've had on two wheels (one wheel?) in years. KTM's built like a brick sh*t-house and feels like it will last. Mind you, it vibrates like...um...well, like one of PaulineB's wassnames (worse than my old Jota). But for short distances it's a riot. Looked at converting an XR650 or a WR450 to SuperMuerto spec, but decided the Katie-M is the tool to have. Had it nine months and still get to work every morning with a manic grin on my face!

Honda XL 125 - CB 350 - CX 500 - VF 750 F and some runs with the rest of the range + some others, mostly Japanese (until 1984 I used to work in a bikes-shop).
My best memory : Tourist Trophy Isle of Man 1983 with VF 750 F after a cruise through Cornwall and Wales.
A must for a French nothing to see with Le Mans and other Bol d'Or races : the souvenir Coin is still in front of me right now!

My dad brought us a Bantam 175 field bike for Christmas when I was 6 and my brother 9, mum wasn't too impressed! Been offroad mostly since, mainly Yams and Husky's - my current squeeze is a KTM 520 EXC [lighter and better than the 640 IMHO] must get some SuperMoto wheels, knobblies on wet tarmac are guaranteed to wake you up by the time you get to work. Also an R1, which has only done about 800 miles this year on it's annual Le-Mans trip.
