As "make your mind up time" approaches regarding the Princess 67, I need to start the search for a bigger berth. We're in Torquay at the moment and I love it. So picturesque compared to many other marinas with adequate facilities and secure undercover parking. I have been promised the use of a temporary berth there but it may only be available for a year or less. There's only a handful of other berths big enough and they hardly ever change hands.

So, where else could accomodate a 20.5m motor yacht on the south/southwest coast? I live close to the M6 in Cheshire and Torquay is a 3-4 hour drive depending on traffic. Wouldn't want to be travelling much longer than that.

Spoke to QAB at Plymouth today - no joy. Plymouth Yacht Haven might help but quite frankly it's not the most attractive of marinas. Anyone got any bright ideas please?

Have you tried Mayflower in Plymouth or Weymouth?

Personally I think Plymouth Yacht Haven is well situated with good views over Cattewater which maybe is not so attractive but at least there's always plenty going on. And 2 excellent pubs in the village, New Inn does excellent food.

Had a couple of good meals at the New Inn last week, also good beer. I think the Borringdon's now looking a bit scruffier than it was but still a good place to drink. Went there as well.

Good luck. When trying to find a berth for my new 55 footer all I got was endless waiting lists all along the south coast.

Ended up in Brighton eventually which I really like but the short trip potential is a bit limited.

Have you considered the new Watchet Harbour Marina. I recently discovered this wonderful little place and I think they have berths. It is on the Bristol Channel which does have the tidal drawbacks but the location and scenery is stunning and obviously a lot closer to you. To me, it is an undiscovered gem !

That's right, and we've enjoyed so much we'd like something bigger. Since April we've spent around 40 days on board and apart from the extra space we could really use another cabin or two for family and friends.

If you are considering anywhere on the south coast, there are a couple of marinas on the river we keep ours on that will accomodate this size of boat, they are in Southampton on the river Itchen, Shamrock Quay and erm....... can't remember the other name, if you nead further info let me know and I'll get you the numbers to call for more info

I believe it's much better to ask for a berth face to face rather than over the phone. Marina staff have no elegance to waiting lists. If you are in the right place at the right time you'll be able to jump the queue.

With that sort of travelling time why not do something better and moor the boat on the Costa Del Sol. I am sure Clive at Suncoast will keep it well looked after>>>> Plus you are likely to get a little bit of sun on your back. Only a thought....

Dead easy

Antibes. There are two 23 metre moorings available on quai sud, which is THE quai to be on. About 4.5 hours from your home

Re: oh dear

I think jfm is referring to "Mol Sud" in Antibes, not "Quai Sud" which doesn't exist. Also note that it's seaward side of Mol Sud which is THE place to be - the inland side gets no sunset views and burnt in the morning sun. And sadly it's a bit riff raffish at the far end with the nanky weird petrol boats etc :)

Re: Nanky or not

Berths lease for sale presumably not for rent as is norm in UK.

OK then - How Much?

Re: Dead easy

Magnum I assume by now you have figured out that tcm's posts are tongue in cheek. Mol Sud and Quai Sud are the same thing, regularly interchanged names for the same jetty (and it's THE nicest place for a 20m ish boat in Antibes).

Whether to be on the west or east side of the quay is a fine call. It's not at all a clear cut thing like say London. TCM has a sportscruiser. You see the sunset whether it's stern or bow in a flybridge boat :) We're on west side of quai, TCM is east. There's only one petrol boat on the whole quai, a Magnum, and it's on the east side.

Anyway, of the two 23m x 6m berths, one is on each side of the quai!

Price would be ballpark €400k for 18 years left on the lease. So same price as paying MDL in UK. But there are other significant financial matters, benefits I mean, can only discuss offline and would prefer only to do so if you are dead serious about moving to the Med. Send PM with phone number if you want to discuss

I saw the 67 pics in new MBY. Very nice. Uses the styling and window shapes off the new 20m, which imho is Princess's best styling genre
