Big tides a\'coming.....

Sifting thro' my browser bookmarks, I found this:

Tide calcs

and that the Bristol Channel ( Newport and Avonmouth ) is going to have not a lot of the briny, at times, on 1/2 March this year. About 2 feet less than Chart Datum......

10 LOWEST TIDES

-0.65m 21/Mar/2015
-0.64m 22/Mar/2015
-0.61m 21/Feb/2015
-0.60m 2/Mar/2014
-0.60m 12/Mar/2024
-0.59m 2/Mar/2006
-0.59m 22/Mar/2019
-0.58m 1/Mar/2006
-0.58m 20/Feb/2015
-0.58m 23/Mar/2019

And at other times of the day, 13.16m 2/Mar/2006 , which suggests a Range for the Day of over 45 feet

A day to be tending the lines, perhaps. And what if there's a deep Low swirling about? Will the Thames barrier work, or.....?

Re: Big tides a\'coming.....

Using the link in your post I got different figures.01/03/06 LW Avonmouth -0.1 0020306HW 14.47 giving a range of over 14.5

Using Arrowsmiths (as used by most in the Bristol Channel including the Bristol Pilots )Thursday 2nd March 06 HW 14.5 LW 0.0

looking ahead just a week to the 09 03 06 Neap tideHW is 8.9 lw is 4.7 range now only 4.2 . Strange old place .

to put it into perspective we step down onto this pier at HW springs.

Re: Big tides a\'coming.....

I think thats during Lock closure for annual maintenance in Swansea anyway...closed for two weeks.
Up to 12m ranges are not uncommon for springs..it's only a metre or so more...easy.
Could be worse if you happen to be in the Bay of Fundy.

Go back and look at your original post before you laugh too much.

Re: Big tides a\'coming.....

"Lowest Astronomical Tide (L.A.T.) which is the lowest level, that can be predicted to occur under average meteorological conditions and under any combination of astronomical conditions."

It is not uncommon to have LW figures that are negative.
