Of on my holidays on Wednesday night I had decided to take the boat through the Crinan Canal and up to Dunstaffnage Marina to cruise around Mull. Checked everything, told the Coastguard and away I went, very little wind so under motor towards Lock Fyne with the intention of waiting for the first lock in on the Thursday morning. Eighteen miles out there was a change to the engine sound, so followed a quick look over the side, no water from the exhaust, engine off, then down to check the engine. Well the water pump had decided to hand its notice in at a very inopportune moment. There I was sat in Inchmarnock water no engine, so sails quickly went up but I had only 5 knots of wind which started to drop away and no paddle! Informed the coastguard of my predicament and so started to head back to Largs. As luck would have it behind me in the distance was another yacht now heading in the same direction as me, this turned out to be Bollero from Scotsail at Largs. A quick call to them on the VHF and next thing they are alongside and offer to give me a tow which they did all the way back to Largs. I was amazed at how lucky I had been and very grateful to the skipper and crew of Bollero who were carrying out a night passage back to Largs.
So once again a very big thank you to Scotsail and the crew of Bollero for their assistance it was and is very much appreciated.
