If there's the slightest chance I might get slightly cold or wet, I always retreat downstairs to drive from the lower helm. I long ago gave up the hairshirt mentality idea, espoused by our yottie brethren, that unless boating is uncomfortable its not fun

No, because you're looking up at the tops of the waves whereas from the flybridge most of the time you're looking down on them. Waves are much scarier when you're down at their level
