Big squall just gone over athens

We got some warnings of bad weather in Kefalonia, it can be very localised, it blew a 6 plus we had a little rain from the South leaving the sandy deposits (skonis) just got back from the pub in glorious sunshine, flat seas, it would seemed to have missed us out!

We clocked 60 knots in Licata yesterday morning (and didn't switch the instruments on until after the first big blast hit from nothing). A couple of boats shredded genoas when they unfurled and there was some damage to local roofs and trees but most boats survived unscathed. Bad flash floods not very far away.

We in Argostoli and we had 45 kts on Sunday , Monday wasn't much better, looking like another wait before we get a 50 hour window before leaving Greece

Fiskardo took a bit of a battering on Friday night, the sea came over the quayside and the tavernas had a bit of cleaning to do!

I flew into Kalamata on Saturday to land just ahead of the storm. It was interesting to compare the weather forecasts. Windguru, Windfinder, etc. that I looked at had underestimated the conditions - forecasting 5s and 6s. The Hellenic weather forecast seems to have been absolutely bang on.

Kalamata.............

Hello neighbour. What's your boat?

Reading another thread, there was one boat on the rocks in Corfu and a couple of sinkings on Preveza town quay. There was mention of damage in Gouvia, as well. I never realised that Fiskardo was as exposed as the photos on this thread indicate, either.

Maybe the Kalamata shelter is not so bad, after all. No damage to my little boat, even with a big abandoned hulk with slack lines and flat fenders moored alongside me!
