I keep going past these on my to-ing and fro-ing between WicorMarine and Port Solent. Two massive round things behind the big drystack shed. Leftover fairground "barrels of fun"? Intake shrouds for huge jet engines which never got finished? Devices for wrapping boats in clingfilm? I really have no idea. And why two of them? Any enlightenment would be appreciated.

I think what you are describing are the things that look like a small Ferris wheel at Magma Structures on the Trafalgar Wharf site.

They are used for the transportation of underwater pipe used in the oil and gas industry. The pipes are made from some form of carbon fiber composite so they are super strong at low weight.

I have been to the site for work some time back and asked :-)
