I think its on Foulness.They are burning something big time.I was watching from Essex Marina and "Sparklers" were going up occasionally. Smoke was quite amazing.If I did that I'd probably have the police round!

we were warned to keep to the north of the river - by the range safety boat then they 'lit up'
Don't know what it was but the black plume was very impressive plus there were orange fireball/sparked in the smoke.
It would take many tyres and gallons of diesel to make such a plume.
..... So much for the new Euro 6 emmission rules for cars.

Yes, we saw it too. We must have passed you. We were sailing out through Burnham when it started, and then turned into the Roach. It was quite impressive with the sparks rising too. It started at about 14.15 and by 15.15 had faded away.
