You may have noticed the sad story of the MV Benita that ran agroung on Mauritius some while ago. It seems the salvagers used two 64mm diameter Dyneema hawsers to pull her off. The normal steel ropes were too heavy, since they had to be handled by helicopter. Mean break load of 300 tons! G- Captain has the story.

Case Study: MV Benita
 
When Graham Snook and I visited Marlow Ropes a few years ago to test soft shackles we were shown many very high load strops, shackles and lines in this amazing material. The 5 mm soft shackles we tested were failing at about the same load as 10 mm steel ones tested earlier.
