My IS15 display failed a few weeks ago following a night of rain. I took it apart and dried the circuit board out but there was quite bit of corrosion on it which I couldn't reach with the toothbrush so it was clearly on the way out, though working again. The cost of a new system was not appealing.

Simrad, bless 'em were not only very accessible on the phone but very helpful and though the IS15 system is now ancient history - long discontinued - called back to say they'd discovered an even older IS15 display in a cupboard somewhere (the round type, mine is the square mounting) and were pretty sure the electronics were the same. As indeed they are. And they sold it for a very sensible price when they could have stuck it out for a complete new system.

Bravo Zulu Simrad for top customer service.

I have the even older IS11 system and even through I have some spare displays I am concerned that the central unit will fail.

Have you got contact details for the simrad branch who were so helpful.

I had a concern about the availability of the IS15 kit as used on our boat but I have established that you can use the IS20 Graphic units with the IS15 units via NMEA. The graphic units are now coming up on ebay! As Roger says the only problem will come when the main unit that takes all the underwater and mast head data goes on the blink.

There was talk of using the later unit but it isn't compatible as a stand-alone multi function display as I wanted. Apparently if you have a string of displays you can use the later ones. Something to do with the lack of NMEA outputs I think.

Roger, I just called the service number on the UK website.
