Sorry, I wasn't very clear with my wording!.... look on Google using the search term Gigapixel... you'll find loads of images.... you can zoom in and see detail that is invisible to the human eye at normal resolution... the eye can resolve about 1/60th of a degree, so they are way in excess of that.

'spose you could do that with your phone if you took a squillion pictures and stitched them together in Photoshop...

I'm not going to do it! I will drop it in to conversation as a student project... Image recognition and image transforms to get adjacent images to line up; reading the phone's inertial sensors to figure out where is it pointing and hence where in the matrix to slot the image in so pix can be taken in any order; color balancing; and I am sure we can fit DSP in somewhere...

It is really just an extension of the software that takes panoramic pictures so as to include up and down as well as side to side.

There's enough to keep someone busy.
