I was moored up an the boat next door stuck on some tunes.

It was a big boat (80 feet odd) and it sounded superb.

I have a bose system that can add bass to the saloon ( but not as good as this boat ) but it would not touch the outside let alone a boat 15 feet away.

More out of interest than a desire to do it what does it take to generate sound like that on deck as opposed to in a room ?

Nice in a car Naim sound in a Bentley
Your personal space avec double glazed glass

Not so sure in a Med anchorage
Sound travels -kinda ruins the piece and tranquility
Annoys snoozing neighbours -

Direction of travel is a blue tooth BOSE - to your personal device
With head phones

Ghetto or Cala blasters are out

Answering your Q
We had a boat specced by a record producer 2003 sunseeker
It had a subwoofer under a cockpit seat and 4 big ( none std )
Speakers in the cockpit /radar arch
In the aft cabin a huge amp under a kids bunk
Surround sound in the saloon for the TV and D V D
Waaaay over the top

It took two blokes to lift the cockpit seat with the Subwoofer in -you could feel the vibrations through your feet in the cockpit -never mind what was cast across the water !

Noise of the geny to power it all up - kinda defeated the object @ anchor

One of those personal indulgence s , speccing a new build
Adds Nowt to resale -in fact reduces storage space

Really is no need to use generator power. Plenty of very powerful 12v amplifiers around these days, and in fact for the last 20 years or more. Key is knowing what and where to use kit. Sadly very few can. Most branded marine audio is well behind the audio flexibility of high end car audio I used to be involved with at the end of the 90s.

My system is built with Bose speakers, all driven by Fusion marine amplifiers and head units. It is horrendously loud and maintains sound clarity whilst being horrendously loud.

A show piece more than anything. I wouldn't subject the marina and river to it unless I needed to drown out someone else, to prove a point ;)
