I have just been advised about a recall of many BFA rafts due to faulty valves which may lead to complete deflation!

The recall info is at:
www.bfa-marine.com/en/life-rafts-involved.cfm

So I sailed across the North Sea this year naively believing that I had a safe reliable product so this news is disturbing indeed

Whilst BFA are stating they are prepared to pay for replacement valves they amazingly will NOT pay for items such as replacement vacuum bags that will be required to repack the repaired units, or the cost of collection and return to their nearest service agent.

They also fail to make any mention that if owners are still using their boats – I guess some of still do in September – whether they will provide any temporary replacements whilst the rafts are being repaired. I have asked them the question but I can guess the likely answer.

Thanks for that, I have a BFA, needs servicing anyway, but dont know the serial, now at least I know where to get it done!

Compare that to Viking on a recall because of a similar third party potential valve problem.
They will collect and returm, they will provide a full free service and you only pay for any replacment bits, the give you a free first aid kit to say sorry - the result was that i had both of my liferafts serviced and a new certificate issued for about £12 per raft, That is service and I want to praise it.
BFA marine IMHO are acting outside the law.
They have sold you a faulty product - fact.
They are liable for all the costs - fact.
Make them pay and do not allow them to get away with this shoddy service.

Only if you moor directly in front of me in Lowestoft /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I have got an engine really, so don't let anyone know that I shouldn't be on the MBF /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
