Things go missing! CCL were contracted to collect my sails before Christmas to deliver to the sailmaker. CCL had subcontracted the job to Business Post Plc who collected the sails from me. They never arrived. Both CCL and Business Post Plc refuse to discuss the matter or reply to my letters. Neither company deserves to be in business. Be warned.

Do you have signed collection note from CCL? If you do it should be a simple small claims case, shouldnt it? Could be new sails coming up!

You contracted with CCL. Who they sub-contract to is none of your business.

When I meet with a stonewall like that (customer service - ? - departments) I write a registered letter directly to the company chairman. It always gets results. Remain factual, firm and polite. Very often they do not realize what is happening at their grass roots level. I usually time my calls and let him know how long it actually took to get speaking to a person of authority.

Recently this has resulted in (amongst others) 6 months free internet access and a free replacement computer (out of warranty).

You need to check the fine print...

If you have a collection note signed by a Business Post employee, you should be able to claim against them. Unfortunately, unless you specifically took out extra insurance cover, your claim will be limited by the fine print in their terms & conditions - probably only around £10 per kg max. Check out what you might be entitled to, then write to CCL and Business Post asking for compensation within 14 days or else you'll sue them. If they don't pay, claim against both of them. You can do this online through Money Claim Online. It's quick and easy and concentrates the defendant's mind quite effectively.

All courier companies have very restrictive terms & conditions. In some cases, it's absolutely impossible to get the courier to give any cover for loss. I recently sold some small antiques to a lady in New York, and needed courier delivery with £1000 compensation cover. Impossible! In the end, I arranged special cover through my house insurers and sent the package by FedEx.
