Hello everyone, hope your all looking forward to the new season, can't be any worse than last years.

Ours is off to a great start already. I am looking for a new engine and have decided on the Beta 20. I will be fitting it myself, and would like to know who is the best and most reasonably priced to buy from.
Had one quote already of £4620. that included the vat.
Is this reasonable or can it be had cheaper?

Bought one just over a year ago. Paid £3770 including VAT. Dealers should be able to offer 25% - 28% discount against list price. Your figure sounds like list.

My figure excluded all the various extras plus fitting which I didn't do myself and ended up doubling the price.

You should be able to negotiate a better price than £4.6K for the basic 20hp engine I'd have thought.
The best time is during a show, eg LIBS which is now running. Try ringing Beta.

As an aside. My 20hp Beta is now 3 years old and can't fault it. Had a problem with the saildrive and they replaced the whole unit and paid for the lift-out to do so. They also refunded me the cost of a previous lift out.

Certainly sounds like the excellent customer service they are reputable for.
Good to know,
Thanks for the help so far people, if anyone else has anything to add it will
be appreciated.

Definitely contact Beta direct and ask them what show discount they can offer. Then ask for a couple of extras at the same price, eg uprated alternator, shallow sump(?), better control panel etc. You will probably get away with it.
If you are close enough and have the transport you can collect the engine yourself and get an interesting guided tour of the factory. They are very helpful and accommodating people.

Check on the delivery charge. I had to pay an unexpected 360 euros for delivery of the engine from the UK via a Dutch agent. I could have driven to the factory and picked it up myself for that.

Otherwise I'm very happy with the engine.

Thank for he advice guys, and those who pm me. I contacted Beta this morning and done a deal. New engine here in 2 weeks.
Certainly seem slightly cheaper than any of their agents.
But were £600 cheaper than my first quote
