That suggests one would be £better off by buying/installing a Beta 10 unit - then adjusting the governor speed unit as above.

Or is there more to it....?
? Only saying what I was told! And it worked. Is still working AFAIK 7 years on. Anyway who says it is not a 14 that has been de -rated?:)

Beta literature shows the B10 develops 10hp @ 3000rpm whereas the B14 develops 12hp at that speed. This seems to suggest that governor speed adjustment of itself won't change one engine into another.

Prop - I had a Beta 14 in a 25-foot wooden boat. Would not reach more than 2.7K rpm and that was because the prop was the wrong pitch. I would get a professional to calculate the right one for our boat. I'm sure that the owner association would be able to help.

Slightly off topic - I have a Beta 25hp in a 33' Moody. From when I fitted the engine, it has never revved above 3300 rpm at full load. I keep meaning to get the pitch reduced by 1/2" to 13 x 8.5 but never got round to it, as I've never had an issue with it. Too many other jobs to do.
Definitely get an accurate calculation for prop size for your boat - most prop suppliers can do this for you.
