Soon to remove this on my Beta 13.5 in order to clean it. I've only done it once before and replacement was very awkward. I found it hard to fit the end cap bolts in such a way that they tightened the thing down evenly. Any tips gratefully received.

Before I got used to doing this job, I often failed to line up the key in the drive end cap with the slot in the stack. Once I'd realised that you can see when the stack is in line by looking at the layout of the tube ends at the other end, that helped a lot, but it still isn't easy.

Once you've cleaned everything (including the threads on the cap bolts), put the stack in place in its central position. Then put the O-rings in at each end (if visual access isn't good, you can 'feel' this bit quite well) so that both rings are the same distance in from the outside of the casing. Then place both end caps on and tighten each a little.
With luck, it should stay inplace as you gradually tighten the bolts, doing it a bit at each end alternately.

Several years ago, I had an impellar disintegrate, and all the bits got stuck in the heat exchanger of my betamarine 13hp jobbie.

Cleaning was a matter of taking off those end caps and rodding them through.

Refiiting the endcaps was not easy, and seemed unsatisfactory.

But the seals held and no problems were encountered after that.
