Beta engine volvo sail drive

Hi

Am thinking of changing my engine (VP MD7A) which has a 110 sail drive. I am thinking of a 16hp beta, can ikeep the current sail drive? and will the beta 16 be compatible with it?

The sail drive is ok, was overhauled a couple of years ago and the old MD7A is still giving good reliable service but is getting on a bit! I inntend heading off in the next couple of years which is why am considering a new engine.

I changed an MD11C for a 28hp Beta and kept a 110 sail drive (Beta fit an adapter plate to the saildrive - so need it delivered to them)

Beta people are really helpful - give them a call about your specific engine.

Personally I'm happy with the route I took. One other thing to consider though is the gearing / prop size - new engine probably revs higher than the old one - so prop might need adjusting or run at below max revs.

Did similar last year, exchanged md7a for Beta 20hp. Best move i've made in a while. Could be done yourself if you have tools and time.
