I have had a search through and despite some good advice on painting the engine, I can't find an answer to the following.

Apart from obviously sourcing from Beta themselves, is the Beta red paint easily sourced from the likes of Halfords, Frosts etc or is it peculiar to Beta?

Many thanks for any help given.

As far as I am aware Beta don't supply the paint. However, it is a standard colour Vauxhall 'Carmine Red'. You can get aerosols of this colour in Halfords and other auto-supplies shops, but, as far as I've been able to find, only as an acrylic based paint, not a 'proper' engine paint.

You can get engine paint made up to this colour by specialist suppliers, but only, it seems, in quantities greater than you'd want to touch up an engine.

In discussions about engine paint in previous threads, some have said they have found standard car paint OK on engines, and others have said that you should only use engine paint on an engine. (That's the forum for you!)

If anyone knows of sources of (preferably brush on) engine paint in this Vauxhall Carmine Red I'd be pleased to hear it.

This is a small touch up can, but they will do larger amounts. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vauxhall-82-89-CARMINE-RED-Code-535-Touch-Up-Paint-/300432441637

Or this bright red engine paint. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/500ml-Eng...ssories_Car_Care_Cleaning&hash=item1c211ee9c6

On a boat I had I wanted to paint the engine and engine bay, I took some colour chip cards from my bodyshop and found the colours were "British Standard Colours" and the Grey was "Massey Ferguson Grey" and the Red was "Massey Ferguson Red" and I suppose if there had of been a bit of yellow somewhere it would have been "JCB Yellow" and if you can buy car paint in "Two Pack" you can brush 2 Pack.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys!

Stork - that Ebay link to the bright red looks promising

I'll give Beta a ring and see what they can supply, thanks all again.

John

Take something off the engine which is painted. Take it to a Car Paint Place (Brown Brothers, Sprayshop Supplies etc) show them the part. They will get their colour chips out and identify the colour and it will either be on the shelf as a British Standard Colour or they will mix it for you. Certainly you will be buying it as a "Trade Buyer"
You may also find that the red used on IVECO diesel engines is identical.

I've been informed by the Beta agent over here that the red colour on Volvo Penta petrol engines is a good match. Touch-up enamel is supplied in spray cans, no. 827501. Can't confirm, as I have not tried it myself.

I had a good look around a few months back and couldn't find any (I wasn't keen on normal automotive paint - the carmine red stuff - and although a couple of companies would colour match some for me it was going to be expensive. So I gave my local Beta agent a call and he gave me some for free (I only need a 100ml or so) ;-) Worth a go I reckon
