My 4-cylinder Beta 1305 is dripping sea-water from just behind the raw-water impeller case - seems to be coming from inside the slotted casting which I guess contains the drive shaft. Any suggestions on the cause (shaft seals?) and how to fix it would be much appreciated. Thanks - Tony

Shaft seal yes.

Renew it before the leak gets so bad that water forces its way past the oil seal into the engine.

Dont know the engine but unlikely to be able to renew the seal without taking the pump off.

While its off it may be worth replacing the oil seal as well but inspect the bearings and the shaft for excessive wear. Good time to fit a new impeller as well

If it's like my Beta pump, removal is easy. Two 6mm hex. head screws hold two small finger clamps. Removing these allows the pump to be pulled forward off the engine. Spanner access to the screws is a bit awkward though.
With the pump on the bench, it should be posible to press out the shaft and bearings. As a minimum, the seal behind the bearings needs replacement as VicS says.
I don't think the leakage is likely to cause oil contamination as the space behind the water seal is well drained.
Hope this helps.
