Hi All,
Viewing a boat tomorrow, all the pictures look good but need to stand in front of it to check condition hear the motors etc
We eventually will want to bring it closer to home to probably Milford Haven Marina. So can anyone suggest a boat mover that could bring her on a trailer from East Coast to Milford Haven Marina? She is 7.60m long with a beam of 2.60 and weighs just shy of 2 tons. One suggestion from a mate would be to hire a skipper to bring her back has anyone used such a service?

I would suggest a skipper plus the cost of fuel is going to be an expensive option compared with trucking across to West Wales. The weather is also a big factor and can delay a passage for days. You would need perfect conditions for a boat that size (I am slightly smaller). I would suggest trucking is a better option. You might get a return load price if you can wait. Shipley would get you a quote or why not call Quadra at Milford Haven to see if they have any recommendations as they will know who runs in to them with a suitable trailer.

Don't forget to factor in the cost of lifting and launching both ends.

By road! try calling Dave at windjammer at Milford for his recommendations.
Can't find the details of the Swansea outfit I used to move my Sunfury , but it was a long time ago.

EU Yacht delivery in Swansea seem to specialise in that size of mobo, but never used them so can't comment

You could try Chris/Fran at: Boat-mover.co.uk, I've used them twice and really happy with the fab service. Kept me informed through the whole process.

As people have pointed out, downsides of bringing it round are - time it takes (including likelihood of having to wait for weather at times), and it will use fuel.

I am surprised they didn't also mention that it would involve getting the boat wet! :D

Circumstances might rule out taking it by sea yourself, but you bought a boat. Don't you want to use it? Bringing it round would be an adventure.

There's understandably a solid consensus for getting it transported overland - it's the sensible option. But then buying a boat wasn't the sensible option, either.

Good luck with whatever you do.

You need to be sitting down when you find the costs involved. If it is on its own trailer then you just need a 4X4 and a driver which for 2 days and 300 miles is over £1k plus say £300 for lifts either way. If on a truck with a HIAB you can double that or 4X4 with trailer probably 50% more. There is very little traffic in small (particularly lower value) boats east west, partly because of the high costs involved.

Mate of mine has just had a quote to move a Hanse 34 from fleetwood to Shotley for £1400 plus load & offf load by yards each end. Firm recommended by marina in fleetwood I believe

If you can spare the time to be stopped by the weather this will be the trip of a lifetime. We moved from Gillingham on the Medway to Watchet on the Bristol Channel in 2001 and was the best adventure of our boating lives. No problems and great weather every day for seven days. You may be less lucky weather-wise but still worth considering.

Yes it would be an adventure, but the OP was suggesting they'd need to hire a Skipper and with the weather we're having lately, I think this would over complicate things and be pretty expensive. If they didn't need a Skipper and had loads of time, I agree, it would be a fun thing to do
