In the Bristol channel?

Louise and I did a fair bit with Ishtar, some excellent sailing, met loads of new friends and are really now starting to feel we can sail a bit.

I think the highlight, though, was the trip back from Milford, taking in Lundy. An early start leaving Milford about 7am, motorsailing Southwards with Lundy getting ever larger. Dolphins and porpoise all around, feeling so very lucky to be out there. Couple of pints in the Marisco Tavern that evening and then spending all the following day walking, taking in stunning views in the autumn sunshine. Another early start and a full day's sail to Porlock before the short hop back to Cardiff.

Really sticks in the mind, and in these cold dark nights before the new year, just sets me thinking about what might happen next year.

Blog entry.

Where was your favourite place.trip during 2009?

Brilliant blog...!

I have just read through a few of your pages - very interesting, great pics and making me want to get out sailing.

We have had a quiet two years in Swansea after moving from the Solent. Felt a bit intimidated by the channel and didnt get far and so to try to make amends I moved her down to Cardiff last weekend. Had a great sail and ready to get going again after xmas.

Is Ishtar a fin keel?

Looking forward to getting the family used to the boat again on the bay and then aiming for watchet.

Happy sailing,

Hi Richard, yes, she is a fin keel. It was our first full season.

Where in Cardiff are you? CYC, CBYC? Either way, check here for trips. You could also look at the CYC forum - http://cardiffyachtclub.proboards.com/

A few of us post there when we are going away. In fact, I think Allan was looking for company to sail to Portishead this last weekend.

All the best.

Good to meet you all albeit briefly at the Griffin.
Let me know if you return next summer

Will do. We are in the process of sorting a mooring at Dale, so expect to be down for a couple of months at least, probably from early summer.

Thanks for the brilliant blog posts, really interesting read.

We are based permanently in the haven, used to be in Dale for May, June, July, Aug and part of September with our previous boat but now based all year in Neyland Marina with this boat. We dont find it that restricting as we have 3 hours either side of high water with a tidal cill.

We spent a few nights up in Black tar this summer, its so sheltered up there.

Personally speaking I would go back to a mooring over a marina but we stay onboard a lot so electric and marina facilities are needed.

Ian.
