I now have an AIS transponder fitted -
I was hoping the wife can follow my progress round UK this year whilst in range of a station- which should be most of Uk & Ireland
On my laptop I can get my boat on Vessel Finder & marine Traffic - both FO charge
However, i am told that to follow on an I pad I will have to pay to download the App
So does anyone know what one is best?
I have heard Boat Beacon is Ok (on this forum) but are there any others worth forking out a tenner for - that actually work?

Boat Beacon works fine and is has a search facility. It doesn't have a track facility like Marine Traffic. I imagine they all get feeds from the same server.

The other advantage of Marine Traffic is that, with a login, you can filter the type of vessel which would make yacht spotting much easier.

I have Ship Finder Free (SF Free) on my iPhone. You can see the vessel name, location etc but can't click into extra information such as speed, destination etc.. It says it's available for iPad too. This is free, the full paid version is £2.99.

Marine traffic, & become a contributor by mobile data, if you have a mobile and class b. not certain but you might be able to do this without class b reporting what you receive and your position. Guarantees you will be on the map,at vastly longer distances than the ships class b can reach. Also gives those at home the full details, as contributors have higher privileges. Incidently I used 3 for data , which worked well from Dover to Cardiff.
