Best time to sell?

I'd appreciate the views of the forum. I've a Moody 31 to sell; is it best to try now, after the boat show, when folk might be fired up about the new season, or wait until there's been a few warm weekends, as for convertible cars?

(Kim, this is not an ad, BTW)

I would guess at the end, and begining of the season, when sailors are all fired up. thats when I have sold mine, Its hard to leave a warm hearth in the middle of winter....but as soon as the sun starts to shine
IMHO.

I'm looking round the marinas at the moment for something to buy (this is not a response to a non-ad!) and we've been told that a load of boats come on the market just after the boat show as so many people upgrade then.

If I were you, I'd move now as people like me are expecting you to. If you hang on until April/May, I and maybe others like me will have already spent our hard earned money on something else.

I put my boat up for sale a year last September. I didn't get any interest at all until April the next year. I sold it May with a lot of interest shown from April onwards.

'Doer uppers' tend to sell at the end of the season so that the new owners have all winter to prepare them for the season. 'Ready to goers' often sell in the spring ready to launch and sail. However, there's no hard and fast rule and boats can sell at anytime.
If yours is ready to sell, I should put it up as soon as you can.

Put it up anytime unless you are worried about wasting the cost of adverts. Qwners clubs always a good place to advertise and free or cheap!

I buy and sell toys all year round  I travelled the length of the country once in December up to Edinburgh with a trailer on the back for an old bike, just managed to get through miles of snow but it was pretty hairy - wrapped the whole bike in clingfilm to keep the road salt off ;)

I bought my Drascombe this time last year which worked out well as it gave time to work on it before the season started :)

Start now.

Price it correctly.

Present it beautifully.

Make sure the paperwork is 100%, especially the VAT.

Advertise absolutely EVERYWHERE.

Or use a reputable broker. (not an ad as too small for me)
