Best substitute for red handled gate valve ?

There are a couple of these gate valves on my boat mostly in the fresh water system but they are all either very stiff or jammed open. What is a good substitute that will fit into the copper plumbing and be as compact but won’t jam ? Maybe like a garden screw tap ?

I'd just use full-bore 90 degree on/off valves in fresh water - so much easier to operate, and immediately obvious whether they're open or shut.

Replace with standard stainless ball valve, should be a near straight swap
gate valves have no place on a boat or really anywhere else for exactly the reasons you have found
