Crunch time has come. Ive followed the previous threads about Kipor vs honda with great interest.
We are planning a cruise next week, (3 week cruise), and if the weather permits, will stay on anchor off the CIs.
So Im going to buy a genny to keep the batteries topped up.

We run mainly a fridge and anchor light, plus some evening lighting in the saloon.

I see that Kipor 3000ti have gone up and that Honda 2Eui have come down in price.

We have decided to go for the smaller unit. Ebay are selling Honda for £870. Is there anywhere else I should look to get a better price??

Take another look at the Kipor 2000Ti (yellow one, full sine wave) still much cheaper and if you're only running fridge and lights and occasional kettle, 1.5 Kw kettle is good on a boat then this should be all you need.

The 2000Ti is £100 less, smaller and much lighter for man handling into a locker.

You can buy one here

Ask for Neil, No I'm not connected but I bought mine there at Libs. The price was £399 inclusive vat and delivery, the 3000Ti was £499 - don't know now.

I bought our Honda EU20i here: http://www.elliotts.co.uk/generators/silent_portable.htm and it comes with charging leads.

I was happy to pay the extra, and i am absolutely delighted, it is fairly quiet.
We sat on the hook for 5 days, 2 years ago, and used it a lot, i rigged up a small lead and plugged the genny straight into the shore power socket, that way i can use the onboard charger, instead of lifting the hatch to plug leads on, also that way all the sockets in the boat works as well.

Any other questions, just ask.

Cheers

Alistair.

I bought a Kipor 2000 for less than £300 off ebay from a man in Telford. Two things I found, firstly it's not very loud but on the water it sounded very antisocial in the anchorage.

Secondly, when I pulled the 3-pin plug out the socket cover fell off and the little springy things that close off the terminals when not in use leapt out. I left them out. The socket cover went back on again, and I don't suppose it matters, but unlike the rest of the unit I thought the 13 amp plug a bit shoddy. Probably a cheap fix for the UK market.

Might be worth asking about the 13 amp plug sockets. On mine they are the blue circular type (female) as found on boats and in marinas.

It's the Honda that has standard 13 amp standard plug sockets. Surprised to hear that about yours.

Just found Dorset Marine have these at £775 inc VAT and delivery for Honda EU20i, looks a very good price.

You got to be joking? you are going to purchase a jenny to run a couple of lights & a fridge?
Whats your total wattage?

Every one to there own, but what a noise!!!
Why not a solar panel, & or a little rutland 503 wind genny, I assume in a 34' boat you have at least 2 batteries & probably more like three, why not get a decent charger a good battery circuit monitor, & a split charge diode.

Get on to an expert & have a look at the different choices. Here or Here

Yes, I guess Kipor same as Honda. Cheapo sockets too, the typical white 13 amp socket cover just clips onto the black business end of the socket and in my case, perhaps I was pulling up a bit too, my effort unclipped the cover and the springs popped out.
