I was wondering if anyone has bought any, which ones, and is there a test report anywhere, also where is the best place to buy them.
I did use a set last year on a boat I was working on , they were made by ITT and called night vision or something, they were absolutely superb, unbelievable!
I decided then and there that I would get some when I could afford them.

Cheers

I just typed this long screed about night vision, about Night Mariner 150 and 250, Dedal, ELF and others. Why choose this and why choose that, pressed return by accident and the whole thing disappeared. About 5 or 6 paragraphs, (when I get into the flow I can't stop).

I've lost the will to live for the moment and cannot start again! Send me a message with your telephone number of you'd like to discuss night vision and I'll call you.

We couldn't persuade you to write a short summary, could we? I'd find it very useful. The Night Mariner seems to fall into the professional category, quite a price. Is generation 3 night optics available outside USA?

Had 1st gen from russia and they were usefull in places where there is no artificial light but unfortunatly zero shock resistance dropped mine a couple feet...and they died..eventually got enough money together for ITT 160 big improvement in performance...and yes they are available outside america through West Marine ...need an export permit which is easilly arranged by West Marine....

Unless the rules have changed dramatically arranging an export permit for a 3rd generation night vision scope will be anything but routine and will take at least 3 months. Further it is unlikely to be granted unless the purchaser is a nato government.

Of course I may be completely wrong and circumstances may have changed in the last three years, but after September 11th I would have thought not. I do however think it would be worth asking West Marine just in case.

I'll work up some enthusiasm for that, maybe chop some old text. Perhaps during the next episode of Coronation Street when I must leave the house or lose my sanity.

Reminds me of that wonderful Marx Brothers line, "There ain't no sanity clause".

I have a west marine catalogue on the boat from Trinidad, I'll have look through it at the weekend and see what I find...

US citizens have always been able to purchase generation 3, and in fact anyone can buy across the counter. It is known that people bring them home in their luggage, but beware, one customer I know sent his back for repair and had it immediately confiscated! Total loss.
