We've never visited the river Dart but do go between Plymouth and Brixham so would like to add Dartmouth as an overnight destination. We have a 10m motorboat. Don't need electric. Do have a dinghy. Don't like spending silly money. Where would you stay?

Give "Dartnav" a call on CH11 as you enter Dartmouth. That is the Dart harbour authority who have a number of moorings ranging from walk ashore to mid river pontoons with dinghy access shoreside in town.

Henry :)

Drop your hook in the anchorage, about a tender for the night, or use one of the deep water pontoons, double the cost of dropping your hook. Easy to get ashore from either by dinghy.

Hello, one of my favourite mooring places is alongside Res Nova, this is a dutch barge moored in the middle of the harbour opposite Castle Hotel. The advantage being restaurant and bar close to hand on the barge and you can always get ashore with their watertaxi.

Our new favourite from this year is the small visitors pontoon port side of river just up for the passenger ferry jetty, could stay for hours just watching everything going on as your " in the thick of it"

I have a feeling that the Res Nova is no more. It was one of my favourites too but it has been gone for a while i think. As Henry has said, best bet is to give Dart Nav a call on 11. They are very helpful and will find you a space on the visitors pontoons or help you onto a buoy in the middle of the river which gives a great view of the town. We also went on the inside of the town quay after the regatta last week where there is electric and water and a walk ashore, but it is more costly.

The buoys at Dittisham are worth a stay, its only a few minutes up river from Dartmouth and the Ferry Boat pub is good too.

Thanks. We have never stayed overnight at anchor and I'm not keen to try that yet but will definitely call on ch11 and ask for assistance. We've only stayed on a buoy once, in Salcombe, and I liked it so would prefer to do that again rather than a pontoon.

We enjoy being on a buoy as long as the location is good, with having a dog its a bit more tricky but not a problem, I remember once returning to boat in dark whilst at Dittisham after a long afternoon in the pub to then collect dog and take him ashore for walk, I'm sure we ended up back in pub until late.

Res Nova was taken away about 3 years ago. It was due to be replaced buy that never happened.

Agreed. Dittisham is a lovely place to moor if relative peace and quiet is what you are after.
Good pub and good restaurant at waters edge.
Tide runs out very strongly on Springs - buoys near the jetty are the worst for this - rowing can be hard work.
