We are close to finish purchase of 82' in France. The kids are off for spring break in April. We are looking for a good place for that time of year. I have volunteered to relocate the boat prior to that week any where from Mallorca to Sardinia.

But what's best at that time of year when swimming and sun tans will be low priority?

It depends on what you are looking for.

Mallorca is just waking up in April. The weather will be temperate but you won’t be able to swim there ( or prob anywhere else in the med ).

I would think it is all pretty similar at that time of year. Save the diesel and stay in sof and explore and get used to your new Boat

Fundamentally the further south you go, the more chance you have of fine weather at that time of year but its still early season and you could be unlucky. If you're going to go anywhere I would say go to Mallorca because at least there's plenty to entertain the kids and your wife onshore if the weather isn't good for boating. But really I agree with jrudge; save your money for longer trips later in the year, explore the local area in France if the weather is kind and find out how your boat works first without the pressure of a long open sea voyage. Btw a trip from France to Majorca in April is not to be taken lightly even with an 82 footer especially if any kind of mistral wind is forecast

there is so much to visit in SOF,
depending on weather forecast, you can choose to go more east or more west of porquerolles,

in that period, ports are not yet bussy, so you will be able to get a berth for the night in:
Marseille,
Cassis,
Sanary sur mer,
Toulon,
St Tropez,
port Grimaud
Cannes,
Antibes,
at ancher in Villefranche
Monaco
Menton,
to name a few very nice places

From experience the SoF ,Cote d Azur has a huge shoreside aftercare infrastructure.
Every other boat mechanic is handy on Anrnesons / hydraulic s with a set of spanner’s .
So rarther than think “ where to go “ from a point of interest *
,I would be thinking
I am glad we are in the SoF initially with our new to us boat .
Oh let me see - it looks like every page s in “ yachting pages “ has a Co who,s address is less than 10 miles away from Antibes in this 2 inch thick book .
Hmm - how can this area support so many aftercare and OEM businesses?

Who’s using them ?

* it’s a good as any in the Med cruising wise as well .
You see even 100 miles say 3 hr in your boat - away in Corsica - you are literally in no mans land when it comes to aftercare / parts / suppliers/ support .

My inclination for a max chance of family success would be get to know the boat 1 st in the SoF .
Aside Nice Air port is Frances 2nd busiest.
