Now that the weather is better, I've a job to do!

Is Aerogel a good material for adding insulation to our boat's coolbox? There is limited space to add insulation round the box, so high-performance material needed. I had first thought of fitting a semi-rigid flat panel like expanded polystyrene packaging, but it seems that isn't such a good insulator. Aerogel seems to be blanket-like, how would it be fixed?

What do people use? Any pointers appreciated for this job.

Closed-cell foam, either in sheet form or as a 2-part mix is the usual material - I think 'proper' Aerogel may be a bit on the expensive side, and difficult to fasten as it's very fragile - but some of the new Aerogel Insulation Blanket material does look promising - have you obtained any prices yet?

Get some dow-corning wallmate/floormate. Its the blue foam you see for insulating walls/floors in houses. The blue is denser than the pink. Comes in all sorts of thicknesses. Much better than the white beaded stuff.

If expense is no problem vacuum panels are the very best. Custom made by only one company I could find. I warn you that they are pricy though. I ended up using Celotex type builders insulation material and have ended up with more if a freezer than a fridge if we don't watch the controls!

If space is a problem you could use some of the foil laminate membranes that are used for insulating roof spaces etc.

Would that be Glacier Bay? If so, expensive is an understatement!!
