Best handheld chartplotter?

I would be interested in your views on the RC400, once you have had a play. For such a compact piece of kit I think it has a lot of features. I am particularly impressed with tidal flow data.

I've managed to take it out of the box, put it all together, find the charts and get it all working. Managed to get a fix this morning walking my son to the school bus and discovered I walk at about 2.6kts - the rain and spray from passing 4x4's made the experience feel all the more nautical.

The user interface is much like the E80 in simplified form, so was easy to use. I do like the larger display and chunky feel - the new smaller units aimed more at runners and hikers seem less suited to being viewed from a distance sitting in a cockpit. Easier to prod this one with cold hands with gloves as well since the buttons are large and well spaced.

So far so good, although no chance to use it on board in anger yet. A USB interface would have been nice, but would probably compromise it's watertightness. I need a way to connect it to a Mac to upload waypoints, download tracks and stuff. I suspect the memory available is limited compared to newer units.

Is it possible to use Navionics Land & Sea charts with it?

How did you get on with your RC400, Kioni? And is the screen bright enough in sunlight?

I'm trying to decide which one to buy and this one is discounted now it's no longer in production.

I was keen on the Geonav 4 Gipsy, too, if anyone's got any info/advice on that one.

A veritable minefield!
