Best general degreasser?

After the engine was removed I could finally access underneath it. You can guess what state its in after 20 years. I spent the afternoon scrpaing off as much muck as I can. So what degreasser would the pannel suggest I use to clean it up?

Jizer is effective and doesn't smell too bad.

Try g101 from Autosmart it's very good you can also buy it on ebay

You can get various citrus oil based ones now - usually orange - that work pretty well and smell much nicer and less persistently than Jizer, Gunk etc.

I reckon Gunk is the most powerful but it stinks rather like Jeyes Fluid for ages.

Recommend Virosol, but if you use it on the engine make sure you spary engine after with WD 40 otherwise it will rust anywhere there is no paint. How do I know that? you wonder. Smells ok as well.

I've founf the Ecover detergents and cleaners good for degreasing and they claim to be environmentally friendly.

One thing to consider is getting rid of liquids, it might be easier to use a degreasing hand cleaner and work it round with a stiff brush. The resulting goo might be easier to clean up.

Pink fairy liquid works well- and smells nice.

I use brake cleaner - cheap and effective.

I have been using Virosol for a while although I haven't needed to degrease an engine.
The manufactureres, Clover Chemicals, gave me a local trade supplier which saves possible high delivery charges.
Very economical and lots of uses including cleaning black streaks off grp. Works best if diluted with water.
No connection - just found it a good product and good value with lots of uses around the home as well as on the boat.

POR-15 "Marine Clean" is expensive but seems to work well - especially with hot water.
