Best Gas Stick Lighter?

I'm bored of buying new lighters and/or matches, and refilling lighters. Looked at some Piezo ones once - no batteries no gas, brilliant - but they looked really badly made - and like they'd rust in 5 minutes.

Any recommendations?

I could not even find a piezo last time I wanted one ( for home use). Ended up with a battery operated one. Works well except that the battery keeps coming out of position. Must have had it best part of a couple of years. Still has the same battery.
We also have a butane filled one ( with piezo sparky thing) No great problem to refill from time to time and I reckon the can of gas will outlast me.
 
I use the ones from the pound shop, they cost a...£1.

They work for lighting the cooker burners even when empty, but need filling for sealing rope ends.

Oh and it's mainly plastic so rust isn't an issue, and if it was a quid ain't a big deal.

I have one that looks like the one below (clicky image), I don't know where it came from, it may have been on the boat when we bought her in 1989.




It's brushed steel and other than a bit of surface rust around the vents it's generally looking ok and still working. We keep it in the cutlery drawer and it always sparks even in winter when the boat can be quite damp when we arrive on board.

If the above lighter is the same (or near as damn it) as the one we have, you wont go wrong.
 
Turbo Lighter

Not a match as such but I bought and am now a convert to the turbo lighter for everything from lighting the stove to sealing rope ends. About a £10-needs gas but covered in some sort of plastic type covering so reasonably rust resistant. See here http://www.turboflame.co.uk/

Got one of those, came with the boat, but not posh brushed steel, just painted. But works every time.

We bought a twin pack for £1 for lighting the origo, second one is still in pack, and they came ready filled with gas. They can be refilled as well. Should last a few seasons.
 
I have always preferred the refillable ones (rather than just a spark) because you can light it before turning on the gas... I'd rather not turn on the gas and then hope to get a 'click' in the right place.

Warning regarding these refillable ones>>>

I always put it away in it's own special space in the cutlery drawer with the flame end away from the sides of the drawer (After checking the flame is fully out)..

Heard a story of one being put away... but small leak in the nozzle meant that the flame was not fully extinguished when put away.. It carried on burning and set fire to the locker...

+1 piezo from Poundland. Several models, some even include a gas refill.

Actually, the one I have on board is exactly like the Aldi one... It has lasted about 4 years so far but the flame is now very small even on the biggest setting.

Just bought a new £2.50 one today from Sainsburys... Now it's on the boat and I have just realised there is no fluid level indicator.. hmm :(

Would have preferred the indicator but I guess when the flame stops it only takes seconds to refill.
