I was going to go to the boat show with a shopping list namely
EPIRB
Smart Charger
4 stage regulator
AIS Engine

in addition to which I want a
Flat Screen TV (for Boat)
A new Laptop

I suddenly occurred to me that I am stopping over in Hong Kong in a few weeks and a I may save a few bob if I bought this stuff in Hong Kong.

Anyone got any experience of this?

Its been 5 years since I was last in Hong Kong and, street markets aside, I didn't really see any significant savings. Add to that that the manual may be in Mandarin and then tech support and spares issues I would buy at the boat show.

But then what do I know?

I agree. I go to HK regularly and prices are very little different from here on most electronics, although choice may be greater. However, the market for marine goodies is Europe and I don't think you will do better than buying from one of the discount retailers at the Boat Show

Re: What about Dubai? nm

I work in Shekou near HKG and wouldn't buy anything electronic here apart from portable hard drives! The only things I have ever seen that are cheap are camera lenses and binoculars. Olympus 10x50 waterproofs for £120 as opposed to £350 or more at Jessops. We do get the latest gizmos here before Europe but there have been warranty problems here too. Dodgy DVD's are a waste of money too....
