Anybody know if you can beat the chippy at Tarbert. Best Fish and Chips we've had for ages.
Also had a cracking meal at the Kames Hotel the night before. Really got their act together.

Best fish and chips in the Clyde is at the West End Cafe in Rothesay. Shame the rest of the town's a dump, but there you are.

Pontoon berths are crowded and v. expensive plus there are no toilets or anything (well you can walk 200 yards to the Victorian toilets where they charge you entrance, and close at 8pm!).

But you do get free electricity, so take your welding set - or anchor off! Beware the large red mooring buoys, you will be charged £10 a night if you pick one up.

Havn't tried a single fish from the van on Tobermory (fish) pier, obviously.

It's always got a dozen or so queueing .... more when it stops raining!

Oh, the fish van at Tobermory is the business!
So good, I once came off the Hebridean Princess looking for it!!
Egon Ronay commended I believe. All in all hard to beat.

About time then. Kames is still going downhill. Not a patch on what it used to be.

Changes afoot in the Kyles

Kames Hotel now up for sale. Hope somebody interested in sailing will buy. Last owner wasn't interested in his 15 moorings.

Colintaive Hotel just keeps on getting better in my opinion. Food and welcome is the best in the area for yachties - on a par with the Anchor in Tarbert.

....and there is hop for Rothesay yet. Brechins - just round the corner from the chip shop is very good, though expect to pay more that the chippie!

Regards

A well fed, contented sailor

Update - Kames

Kames Hotel now sold. Believe the new owners are more interested in the yachtie side - looks as if my mooring will be under pressure again!
