My hardwood duckboards have very little of the original varnish remaining, so I will scrape down. What is best for refinishing? I was wondering about boiled linseed oil, but is there any microporous varnish? Advice for a newbie, please.

Mine consist of a heavy frame with a grating in the middle.
I gave up with linseed derivatives as I found thay turned black and nasty in no time, plus they could be slippy.
I now use a modern woodstain for the frame and leave the middle natural. The contrast looks good and 3 coats of stain lasts well.
