My website describes the characteristics of many of the better sailing areas around the European coastlines (from Scotland to Greece - sadly Croatia, Turkey and the northern Aegean won't be there until next winter).
Should help you make a decision, as long as you know what you want. Elements compared are areas of brisk winds, challenging pilotage, or easy sailing. Also crowded social life versus quiet anchorages, level of tourist influence, friendly natives. Bars or restaurants which stand out from the average are included where they're known and confirmed by other's opinions.
Too much information? Only you can decide what will match your tastes . . .
Bit far from UK but easy flights - the BVIs. Our Sunsail nav brief last year never mentioned navigation once but covered every accesible bar and restaurant.
I've chartered Greece, Croatia, BVIs, Grenada and Thailand. BVIs were best with children as snorkling was superb. Sailing was pretty god too. Sailing was best from Grenada. Food was best in Thailand. Remember high season in Med is low season in Carribean. Of course now have bought a yacht which is in Mallorca and available for charter..........
