Best boat orientation in Marinas?

Folks. Need your comment. Our recently built marina is troubled by an adjacent ferry jetty. Ignoring the no wake speed they make our boats rock madly. Now, the marina is designed as such that the boats are side-to the incoming waves. Correct me if I am wrong; wouldn't it be much better if it were designed with the boats moored bow to? Note: Incoming wake is from one direction only.

yes, of course it would. But with wake in marinas either you rock madly, and not much better if you have slap slap at the bows where the main cabin is. Solve this by getting a much larger boat with main cabin midships. Meanwhile, don't put fender socks on if you expect grinding, but use the flat fenders together with ornery fenders on the outside of those flatties to save yr gelcoat.

Many marinas with this problem install a wave screen. Designs vary according to tidal range and local conditions, but most floating ones seem to rely on deep, heavy barriers, often concrete tanks. Old sand barges are a popular, low-cost solution in The Netherlands, either still afloat or sunk.

My guess is that if there is a strong tidal flow, it is best to orient the marina so that yachts point along this flow. Otherwise best is to orient yachts pointing towards the most exposed direction, from which strongest winds affecting the marina blow. Quite often these two will be the same, and what's more also the same direction as that from which any waves come.

Our local marina put its berths across the prevailing wind, and there are always problems in gales.

The one thing everyone has not mentioned is the wind,Yes moor bow out to the incomming wash but if you moor a cabin cruiser with a canopy the wrong way around to high winds you will find the canopy either ripped or gone when you visit next especially in the winter.
My boat is moored in a marina on the Tyne and we have a lot of experiance of bow or stern to the pontoon,but also beware you may see a lot of damage to the hull if you do not "spring up" correctly.
Also try the harbour masters office and explain the problem "most listen" and would love to tell the ferry company to slow down!
