Best boat maintenance book ?

Hi,

Does anyone here have recommendations for boat maintenance books ? I'm looking for something that gives step-by-step guides to all the normal things like changing thru-hulls, varnishing, plumbing, gas etc etc. Boat type is GF sailing yacht.

I find "This Old Boat" By Don Casey is a great reference, when your learning especially. Covers most things, pretty well written to.

I have another Don Casey, "Complete Illustrated Sailboat Maintenance Manual", covers all areas clearly and simply and the chapter titles are the same as the titles of other books of his. Very useful and a good starting point...

I have Nigel Calders book on board. Its mainly for my wife to learn from, but I also take a lot of tips from it. Excellent.

Kind of agree with that. I got a copy 11 years ago (I haven't picked it out from the bookshelf in about 8 years) on the same sort of premis but apart from generalisations of what you're meant to do every day, week, month and year you still have to get specialist info on your particular thingimijig.

Also as with any one book for everything, it misses out the bit you usually need! Whenever I need info I will either buy a specialist book on the topic, go to the manufactures website where you will more often than not get the specific details, or ask on a forum like here where you will get real life experience. Yes you have to sift out the crappy answers from the good ones but that is usually relatively easy.

So save the fortune of this tomb and get specialist books when you need and use the forum.
