Hi
I have bought a new rubber flange and want to glue it to the bottom of the hull where the sail drive exits the hull.
I was advised on Locktite 480, but after buying it and doing a small test it does not look suitable. It is runny and does not bond on contact as advertised.
I though one of the Sika's but unsure on which one.

Boat is on slip now, so don't have much time.
Thx in advance.

Bostic or Evo Stick contact adhesive. Rough up both surfaces then wipe clean, I used surgical spirit, let the glue go off then after putting on the gaiter give it the once over with a wallpaper seam roller. Worked for both of mine.

I believe this is the official recommended method. That's how mine was done and it works fine.

Tried the contact adhesive route and lost 2 in successive seasons. Then splashed out on Sikaflex 292 5 years ago and its still holding on. Not sure if it will come off if I ever need to remove it though!

+1 re contact adhesive not working and Sika 292 fine

I currently use epoxy (West System + colloidal silica to thicken it) ...... but it does leave a hard residue that needs to be ground off next time. 3M 5200 is also good. If you only have a small sticking area you may have to support the rubber while the adhesive cures ..... maybe a few self-tappers ..... but I managed without.

I don't like the ideas of epoxies or similar or contact adhesives for this. When I had a saildrive powered yacht (for 14 years) I used Sikaflex 292. It remains flexible and waterproof with excellent adhesive properties. Just what you want.
Bonding surfaces must be clean and grease free (degreased), and then lightly abraded. Use a small metal roller from centre outwards. Works very well.:encouragement:
